ELK GROVE, CA – On December 26, 2019, at approximately 4:00 pm, the Cosumnes Fire Department responded to a 9-1-1 call of an unconscious 18-year-old male in the 9000 block of Generations Drive. Fire personnel arrived and started CPR. Fire then transported the male to Kaiser South.

On December 28, 2019, around 10:50 am, the Elk Grove Police Department was contacted by staff at Kaiser South regarding the incident. Staff, who initially treated the male, had observed a visible injury on the male’s head. The male was still unconscious and under the hospital’s care. An investigation was immediately initiated. Adult Protective Services and the Department of Social Services were notified of the investigation.

Through interviews, detectives learned the male victim was the only full-time resident at a residential care facility for dependent adults, United Living Care Home. Two part-time residents were present at the care home and uninvolved in the incident.

Detectives learned that around noon on December 26, 2019, the victim and 31-year-old Aaron Gacilan, who works as a caretaker at the residence, got into a physical altercation. Gacilan kicked the victim several times in the head. The victim went limp but was conscious. Around 4:00 pm, Gacilan went into check on the victim, found the victim unconscious and called 9-1-1.

On December 31, 2019, the victim passed away from his injuries. The identification of the deceased will be made by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office.

Detectives completed the investigation and submitted it to Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office for review. After the review, an arrest warrant for Involuntary Manslaughter (Penal Code 192 (b)) was issued for Gacilan. Gacilan was arrested by the Elk Grove Police Department earlier today for the warrant and was transported to the main jail.
