Posted:11/23/2022

Officers responded to the area of West Stockton Boulevard and just south of Whitelock Parkway after a 9-1-1 call of a person down in the road after being hit by a vehicle that then fled around 5:18 this morning. Officers, along with fire personnel, arrived and conducted life-saving measures. However, the man succumbed to his injuries.

The preliminary investigation revealed the suspect vehicle was traveling northbound on West Stockton Boulevard when it struck the pedestrian, a 62-year-old man, who was in the road. Based on the investigation, no evidence at the scene indicated the suspect vehicle left the roadway, and traffic detectives believe the victim was in the street when he was struck.

Our Real Time Information Center staff immediately started aiding our Traffic team by checking surrounding traffic cameras as well as the adjacent Auto Mall cameras and discovered the suspect’s vehicle had been captured on cameras.

Some additional investigative work led officers and detectives to find the suspect's vehicle parked at a house in North Sacramento. The car had a cover over the damaged area. Officers contacted the suspect and registered owner of the vehicle, identified as 54-year-old Michael Brown, inside the house. Brown was taken into custody. At the time of arrest, Brown displayed objective signs of impairment.

Brown was arrested and is in the process of being booked into custody at the Sacramento County Main Jail on charges of Hit and Run resulting in Death (Penal Code 20001 (b)(2)) and Driving under the Influence of a Drug (Vehicle Code 23152 (f), Violation of Parole (Penal Code 3056), and in addition, Brown had an active warrant out for his arrest for Driving under the Influence of a Drug (Vehicle Code 23152 (f).

The identification of the deceased will be made by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office.
